Broken

Love/Hate relationship

I have a weird love/hate relationship with my hearing aid, due to my hearing loss it’s near helpful as it needs to be. I have very limited hearing with it and very limited. Although when I get home from a busy day at work I remove my implant and wear my HA alone, well it’s better than not hearing anything at all in the house. But together, only my implant is gaining all the sounds, hmmm. I’m only really wearing it to keep my auditory nerve stimulated and one day maybe bilateral implants will be a possibility

New Book

A few weeks ago, I ordered this new book and managed to finished it yesterday so it took me less than a week to finish, it was a great book with lots of parts where I could relate to and felt the same way. It’s called All Eyes by Bainy B Cyrus who comes from USA. Its basically her life story and about growing up with deafness and also about her education at Clarke. Read it, it will draw you into the book! It is available on Amazon.

Summer

We’re well into summer 2011, we have even had heatwaves reach 25c for several weeks, now it’s back to normal rain and wind! It was nice while it lasted!

This year has flown by already, can’t believe we’re almost at the end of July, schools are starting to close so the numbers of children at work are reducing at least for the summer so we shouldn’t be that busy.

I’ve been reading others’ blogs lately and many people are getting upgraded with Nucleus 5, I should be getting upgraded between October and next year, it’s a game of wait and see if Manchester wants to give me a new one yet, already decided it’s going to be groovy black!

I’m going to see the new Harry Potter film this weekend of course with subtitles with my friends then we’re going to a Italian afterwards.

Been doing a lot of thinking lately, about what my life would be like if I didn’t get my implant, hmmm can’t help but wonder. I am glad I did get it, but still want two. I don’t know. It is not going to be reality for at least two years I guess.

Updates!!!

I got my new hearing aid a while back now, an Oticon Spirit Zest C, I’ve noticed that I can hear with it a lot more than I did with my previous hearing aid which was an Oticon Spirit 3 SP, I can hear the rain from outside, I can hear some words on the tv(most likely because I know the song already) and I can hear my mum say a couple of words. Despite all this, my hearing aid is still not very practical, it doesnt work well much with my CI, it is very low on that side and needs turning up. Probably cos  my Cochlear Implant is a lot more powerful!! I probably still definately qualify for another implant based on my scores in Jan ’09, but with NICE refusing to budge their decision it will not become a reality for possibly years. Only thing I can look forward to is getting the N5 one day!!

Just wanted to say congratulations to Tina Lannin- a blogger at http://funnyoldlife.wordpress.com/ whom was the luckiest woman in England and was approved to become bilateral, she had her surgery yesterday

Stuff…

I have just put my implant in the dry and store after not putting it in forpossibly years eek!! My hearing is pretty quiet/ annoying (deteriorating) at the moment so it’s in there for the night and hopefully I’ll hear better tomorrow!!

Work is still goood!! We’re getting new uniforms and I’m pretty excited about the new changes occuring at work, who would have thought I’d get excited about something like that, shows I don’t get out much

I got a brand new Blackberry 3 weeks ago, I love it and it’s a shame you have to use paypal if you want to buy an app, there are loads of free ones but the best games/apps have a small cost to pay!!

We’ve had some hot weather here recently so that could actually contribute to my detiorating sound levels, just popped into my head!!

Driving is still same old, plodding through, put myself down for 2 lessons a week at 1 1/2 hours each time.

Twins are 4 months old, we braved a huge shopping mall trip with them at weekend, they wasnt too bad apart from screaming in a restaurant!! I found I could actually hear one of them’s screams OVER the top of the noise in the restaurant(people talking and general noise!)

This weekened I’m confined to the house to look after twins while mum watches wimbledon, so I’m hoping to sort my room out, find all the implant batteries that I have and hopefully start a book again!!

Happy Father’s Day and a new phone!!

Happy Fathers’ Day to all those around the world!! Sadly my father left this world and us behind six years ago.  He was a great father to us all, my happiest memories are Sunday evenings where he used to take us kids to the field maybe a 5 minute walk from home, we’d either play football, cricket, ride our bikes and just have a walk around!! Plus going on summer holidays in Newquay, Cornwall, this was our favourite destination, my parents discovered it when I was aged two.

Anyway yesterday I decided to get a brand new phone since I was in desparate need, today it still doesn’t work properly and I am so impatient waiting for it to be connected. It is a BlackBerry Torch and I’m so excited that I’ve got this phone, been debating a while between this phone and an Iphone. With this phone you can use either the touch screen or the keys, while with the Iphone you have to use the touch screen, plus insurance on Iphone isnt very good.
